The terms "Financial Planner" and "Financial Adviser" are often used interchangeably, but there are some differences between the two:

  • Financial Planner: A Financial Planner is a professional who helps individuals and families create comprehensive financial plans. This may involve evaluating a client's current financial situation, identifying financial goals, and developing strategies to achieve those goals. Financial planners may also offer advice on retirement planning, estate planning, tax planning, and insurance needs.

  • Financial Adviser: A Financial Adviser is a broader term that can encompass a variety of financial professionals, including financial planners. Financial advisers may also provide investment advice and guidance on financial products such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and annuities. Some financial advisers specialise in specific areas, such as retirement planning or tax planning.

While there is some overlap between the two professions, Financial Planners tend to focus more on long-term financial planning and goal-setting, while Financial Advisers may be more focused on managing investments and selecting financial products.
